As local lore goes, Augustino Stefanio was an Italian stone mason who immigrated to America to help construct the nearby Ashokan Reservoir.   He built multiple stone structures and hand dug/chiseled several wells on the property.  These creations are part of his legacy and the foundation of this home.

The stone house is Italian provincial in style, with its random stones and gently curved shingled roof.  Completed in 1918, the house was constructed on bedrock with 18 inch thick walls which adds to its charm.  The modernist farmhouse addition was designed by Duke Beeson and was completed in 2018.  The use of shiplap, stone, beadboard and oversized windows complement the original structure.  All of the mod cons one would want have been installed, including remote climate control and cellular signal boosting.

The grounds are spectacular with multiple blue stone terraces, indigenous gardens and a very large pool area that is deer protected with its custom locust and wire fence.  Outbuildings include a summer studio, three-level barn, garage, pool pavilion, garden shed, pump house and an old stone foundation converted into an outdoor dining room.  There are some interesting cliffs and a slow moving stream at the rear of the property.

The property is located on a quiet country road and just 15 minutes from Stone Ridge, 20 minutes to Kingston with its big box stores, 20 minutes to Woodstock and 30 minutes to Rhinebeck and the Amtrak train station.
